Teaching and Learning Enhancement Grants (2016/17)

What are teaching and learning enhancement grants?

Teaching and learning enhancement grants (TLEG) are designed to recognise and reward excellent teachers and to foster innovations that support the University’s strategic priorities.  Broadly they:

  • support the implementation of Learner Experience Strategy;
  • support the embedding of aspects of CRe8 in the learning experience of students;
  • support the scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • recognise and reward effective teaching;
  • support dissemination of good practice in teaching and learning;
  • support staff aspiring to Bedfordshire Teaching Fellowships

When and how should I apply?

The deadline for completed applications is 5.00pm on Monday 20th June 2016.  An independent panel will review submissions and successful applicants will be notified by Friday 1st July 2016.  Agreement to fund proposals may be dependent on additional requirements specific to the projects and set by the panel.

Exploring resilience in Higher Education

A workshop on resilient writing was delivered  as a part of this year’s CLE writing retreat. The session focussed on maintaining motivation and perseverance during the writing process, and strategies around dealing with rejection.

The workshop was well received by the participants: “it allowed me to delve into a very personal view of my own resilience. In particular how I am dealing with my current PhD progress and my ‘resilience’” (Cheryl Barford, Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy).

Current issues around resilience in Higher Education (of both academic staff and students) will be explored in a range of development opportunities to be offered in the new Professional Teaching Scheme CPD programme 2016-17.

Introduction to Teaching and Learning day

The CLE will be hosting an Introduction to Teaching and Learning day on 11th May 2016.

The day provides an important opportunity to ask questions, consider the vision for learning at the University of Bedfordshire, explore expectations for teaching, network and engage in professional dialogue with colleagues, and find out the support available to you, as you settle into your post at the university.

The event is mandatory for all new permanent members of academic staff to attend. If you have not already booked your place, please email pts@beds.ac.uk to register.

If you are not a permanent member of academic staff but have teaching responsibilities and would like to discuss whether the event could be appropriate for you, please contact us at pts@beds.ac.uk.
